Is the café culture changing in the UK?

Stereotypically it is thought that British people only drink tea but in fact we drink around 70 million cups of coffee each day. That is still a lot less than the 165 million cups of tea we drink daily. However, the tea consumption in the UK has dropped by about a fifth since 2010.

Almost 75% of Britons buy coffee when they are out and this is especially popular in the 16–34 category, where this figure is 81%.

Benefits of drinking coffee

It’s been a question that has been floating about for years – is caffeine good for you?

At the end of last year, a report was published in the British medical journal by the University of Southampton stating that two or three cups of coffee a day may actually be good for you. This research analysed the health of coffee drinkers by examining a number of different studies and coming to a final conclusion. However, there are a lot of factors to consider as well like age, lifestyle and general health. There are many benefits of drinking coffee but always seek advice if you are unsure about your caffeine intake.

Of course, the one that we all know, coffee can give an energy boost. This is down to the caffeine in coffee which is the most consumed psychoactive in the world! This means that a substance can change your mood, behaviour or memory.
